Writer’s Block

“Writing about a writer’s block is better than not writing at all.”
― Charles Bukowski, The Last Night of the Earth Poems
writers blockI don’t have any ideas for a blog today. I am stuck. No inspirational stories. No scripture stuck in my head. Nothing. But yet I sit here writing. Why? Because I think God wants me too. Maybe some things will pop into my head. A possible potpourri of scrambled thoughts? And the Lord knows I am capable of scrambled thoughts!
>>>We were discussing Romans 8 in youth group this week. I got excited talking about some of the gifts of grace God promises if we are slaves to Him. I told the kids they would become adoptive children of God. No reaction. I told them that made the heirs of God. Romans 8:17 says “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Then the kids got it. The ultimate inheritance .Hopefully they remember the sharing in his suffering part as well.
>>>Akron is infected with people who jaywalk at night. The game seems to involve how close you can get to a moving two ton piece of metal without being run over. Perhaps I should yell out my car window “The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” (Romans 13:8). Too much? Well at least let’s slap on some reflective vests and offer drinks of common sense to these folks.
>>>I have been watching this one squirrel in my back yard. It flies from branch to branch at breakneck speed. This is all happening at 30 feet in the air. The squirrel is both fearless and doesn’t believe it can fail. I wish my relationship with God was that solid- total faith in the Lord. Maybe we should all watch the squirrels a little more.
>>>In Akron they just release a former police captain named Douglas Prade from prison. New DNA exonerated him after nearly 15 years of incarceration. Some of the men at jail Bible study were talking about how rich he would be after the legal settlement. They missed the point. Proverbs 24:14 says “for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again…” Maybe Prade was wrongly incarcerated. Sometimes when we fall down it is not of our own accord. God still wants us to make something out of our trials.
>>>I really am stuck for ideas at the moment. PLEASE forward any thoughts you have via the comments section on this blog. I will be having a series involving the number fifty as someone I know is having a significant B-day.
book sale>>> I am writing this from the Highland Square Library (Broken Computer). I volunteer for this branch of the Summit County Libraries. Why mention that? First, as a reminder that as Christians we need to bring Christ outside the church. We have a responsibility to our communities. Second, we have three book sales a year that raise money that supports all kinds of things at the library. We have one this weekend. Times: Friday 2/1 from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday 2/2 from 9:15 a.m. – 3 p.m. Hardbacks are only 50 cents and paperbacks are a quarter.

Hope to see you there.
God Bless,
Mark

When in doubt, scribbles some notes…I’ve been getting away with it for decades!
